Pump Types
Meeting the huge range of applications that we encounter on a daily basis is a challenge. As a supplier, it's critical to have a portfolio of products to effectively satisfy those applications.
Flexible Impeller
Flexible impeller pumps are real workhorses and are very forgiving for handling a number of different pumping applications. They're self-priming, and can handle both thin and viscous fluids, tolerate solids well, generally are gentle on the product being pumped, and can be mounted in any orientation. In addition, they're easily and inexpensively maintained as the impeller is the main wear component.
Operation of a flexible impeller pump is similar to that of a vane pump, with the major difference being that the flex of the impeller opens and closes the cavities inside of the pump rather than the sliding of vanes. As fluid enters the pump, the impeller vanes straighten out, creating a vacuum and a cavity that is filled with fluid. The cavity is carried around the periphery of the pump at which point the vanes encounter a cam near the outlet port. As the vanes contact the cam and are flexed, the cavity collapses and the fluid is forced from the pump.
In selecting a flexible impeller pump, selecting the proper materials of construction for the impeller and the housing is important. The application specialists at Webb Pump can help!
